Thursday night babysitting blues

Hi!

It’s 9:45pm on Thursday night.
I’m struggling to stay awake.

I’m babysitting.
The kids are still going strong.
You’d think it was 9:45AM.
Seriously.

I can’t believe any of them are still awake. Especially mine. She was up at 7 and didn’t take a nap. I need a nap.

Or coffee. Coffee would be good fan-freaking-tastic.

Hopefully my friend will be home soon. But it could still be a while. She’s in on a date with her husband. I don’t blame them for staying out. I would too if given the opportunity.

Wish me luck. Or at least a little wish for any one of them to sit still long enough to fall asleep.

UPDATE: it’s now 11:20pm.
One down. Two to go.

Oh, and there was poop.
It’s been quite a while since I changed a poopy child. I definitely don’t miss that.

You know it’s late when the cats I never see come out from their hiding places.

Hi. Remember me?

It’s me.. the long, long lost not-so-wicked Step Mom.

I can’t believe how long its been since I posted anything.

I think about it all the time, and I haven’t really had any time¬†or inclination in ages.

I don’t even know where to start…

The kids-

Well, the Teen is loving high school. Yes, she’s in high school now, and loving every minute of it. She is on spring break this week, and can’t wait to go back. I think I have the only kid in America that loves high school. Shes doing pretty well in her classes. We’ve had some issues with her grades this year, but she seems to be doing much better this semester.¬† Things are pretty much the same with her “mother”. She hasn’t spoken to her in about 3 years now. The woman did sort of rear her ugly head on the Teen’s birthday.. but I think that was only because I told her to.

THe “Mother” had posted on her Facebook page “Happy Birthday to my beautiful and wonderful Teen.” I saw RED when I saw the post. I don’t know where she gets off trying to pretend that she has any relationship with her daughter…. I wanted to post a comment on the status, but I can’t stoop to her level.. so I sent her a private message that said “I think your birthday wishes might be more effective if you put them somewhere she might actually see them. A text might be fine.” Naturally, she didnt have her phone number so I had to give that to her… and she did text and call. But the Teen was far from impressed.¬† And she hasnt really heard from her since.¬† Whatever.

The Maniac just turned 5. She has been in Preschool since August and LOVES it! She is very sad that she is going to have to leave her teacher and go to Kindergarten. I get to register her for Kindergarten next week.. which I’m freaking out about a little. Its crazy that she’s going to be in real school. I try not to think about it all that much… my brain may explode. ūüėČ

As for me.. hubby & I celebrated our 10th anniverasry back in January. Which is very cool, and kind of crazy. He has not been traveling very much lately which has been awesome.

The last post I did write, I told you about my business. That is the main reason I have not had a moment to do anything. I have been busier than I ever dreamed I could be! It is amazing.

Business really started picking up in July & August.. and it has been NONSTOP since September. I don’t know how it got it all done. I’m finally in a place where I dont have a ton of orders hanging over my head this week.¬†I have a few, but nothing urget or super huge. Its been a welcome change. I love it! I sort of complain about it sometimes, but I¬†do love¬†every mnute of it!

I don’t¬†think my house enjoys it.. since It has kind of gone to hell in a handbasket since I got¬†busy. I think I need to take a week off¬†for spring¬†cleaning. I’ll get it done somehow. ūüôā

So, that is that. I can’t promise I will be¬†super regular in my posting.. but I am going to try to post¬†again in less than a year! ūüôā

Hope you are well!

It’s been far too long…

It has been way way too long since I last posted. I think I’ve been saying that at the start of all my posts as of late…

I think about writing every day.. I really do… Then somehow my day escapes me.

Right now, I am sitting outside while the maniac destroys the back yard and torments the dog. Her new favorite thing is digging holes and “planting” seeds. We did make her a little garden. She started all the plants from seeds and they seem to actually be growing. With the exception of a couple things a certain canine has dug up.

There is corn, a couple pumpkins, carrots, parsley, cosmos (a flower) and California poppies. She lives to water them. Oh, and her little fish “Swimmy” is also buried in the garden. She waters him every day too. (well, she thinks she does.. There is a very good chance the dog dug him up and ate him. Yuck.)

Speaking of little Swimmy, may he rest in peace… The poor little guy only lasted month, and the Maniac LOVED him! Now, We have a new fish that she named Marshall. ( She wanted to name him Marcia, but being a boy she changed it). He’s a cool guy. A Betta fish.. In the morning he comes up the the top and waits for you to feed him. It’s almost like the maniac gets to hand feed him.

Oh, So my other excitement. I’m going to go file the permits & licenses make my etsy store a real honest tax paying business today. I know, I should have done it a while ago.. But better late than never right?

I’m kind of a little nervous about it.
And excited. But nervous.

Hopefully I will have time to get it all done. My friend can’t watch the maniac until 2. Keep your fingers crossed that the lines aren’t long! I have 3 offices to hit!

OH! Before I forget! I do want to send a shout out to the Accidental Stepmom, a fellow stepmom and blonde, (who’s blog I adore btw! You should read it!) who also didn’t know that Narwhals were real! And after she mentioned my post in her blog- it seems that we are not the only ones! YES! Hahaha!

There’s only a couple weeks of 8th grade for the Teen! Yikes! Then she’ll be in HIGH SCHOOL! Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!
It seems like just yesterday that she was starting first grade! Such a long time ago! This summer will mark 8 years that she’s lived with us. CRAZY!

I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself one in high school and one in preschool!

On a somewhat random note- I’m going to work on my summer reading list. I honestly don’t think I have read a book since last years list.. So I really need to get on that!

I’m going to leave you with this.. The maniac at the park a couple weeks ago, with ducks who walk on the sidewalk!
Have a great weekend!

Getting back to “Normal”

It’s official.

The Teen is finally back to school today so the holiday season is finally over for us! Woo hoo! While it’s been nice having her around for three weeks, it’s good¬†for her to get back to school! I think she missed it.

What I may not have mentioned is that my dear hubby has been home and not working pretty much as long as the Teen has been on break.¬† It’s¬†wonderful that he’s been home that long.. way not great that he hasn’t been working.¬† And of course it seems that he filled something out wrong on an unemployment form, so that’s been held up.. (But I just talked to him, and they have supposedly straightened it out.)…so these last few weeks have not been easy for us.

But we are getting back to normal.

He started back to work last Thursday.

Wait- are you ready for this..?

He’s going to be working here for a whole, entire month! I don’t know the last time that happened! He can go to sleep in our bed, wake up, go to work and come home and have dinner as a family …. like a normal person!

I kind of forgot what that felt like.

It was¬†seriously weird those first two days.¬† It was like the good ol’ days when he had a “normal” job, and we were a “normal” family.

Yes, we have created a “new normal” with his being gone all the time… and we’ve managed pretty okay over these last couple years.

But going back to the old way, is kind of refreshing. I think everyone needed this. Which also means it’s probably going to suck that much more the next time he goes out-of-town.

Oh, and the icing on our “normal”¬†cake-¬†my brother-in-law is working with him on¬† this job, and is going to be staying with us for a month! So it’s really a flash back!¬† The kids really miss him a lot. (Shhh.. don’t tell him, but I miss him too.)When I told the Maniac that he was coming, for three days ¬†every time someone whet near the door she said “Is uncle here!?!?!”

He just got here yesterday, and first thing out of her mouth this morning, was “Is uncle still here?” I had to reassure her that he was just working with daddy and they would be home later. “Okay Mama.. let’s go to the airport and get them!”¬† It’s probably not good that she thinks we have to get daddy at the airport every time he comes home from work.

Oh well… Reality beckons… I have a huge mountain of laundry waiting for me, and a to do list a mile and a half long.

It’s going to be a busy day!

Busy, busy, busy!

In case you missed me, yes I’m alive!

Things have been super-duper busy since Halloween!

– Halloween was fun.The kids had a blast!

-My birthday was pretty good. It sucked that Hubby wasn’t here for it, but he did manage to send me flowers all by himself via the internet! That was the first time he’s ever done anything like that!

-My one and only birthday present- a new iPhone 4GS! Woo hoo! I finally got it a couple of days ago, it is awesome!

– I opened a store on etsy.com. I’ve been crafting – A LOT! I’ve sold 2 things so far!

– I’ve been commissioned to make 48 chair covers for my friends christmas party. They are coming along.. I hope to have them mostly done this weekend. I’m also making some sock hobby horses for a birthday party and 150 cake pops for a Quincenara.

– as of Monday (I think) the Teen officially has another half sibling that she’ll never know. I refuse to say “little brother,” it feels wrong to say it like that.

-Hubby is on his way home right now! He should be here until after Thanksgiving! YAY!

See, I’ve been kind of busy! ūüôā I really can’t believe Thanksgiving is only a week away! I better go make my grocery list!

Hope everyone is well out there in cyberspace !

Saturday Night!

It’s Saturday night. It’s getting pretty crazy up in here. Okay, not at all.

I am sitting on the couch catching up on some DVR stuff. Hubby is snoozing on the recliner, and the girls are watching TV in the other room.

We are celebrating my birthday this weekend. it’s actually next weekend, but sadly my hubby will be away working. ūüė¶ I’m sad… but at least we can have some birthday fun this weekend.

We took the kids to the pumpkin patch today! It was fun.. far more expensive than you would think, picking three pumpkins would be, but its all about the experience, right?

We took the wagon ride around the farm, went to the petting zoo & fed the goats, managed to not get lost in the corn maze, and picked our pumpkins. It was fun. The maniac had a great time, and managed to carry her pumpkin most of the way to pay for it.

Tonight, we are going to go have a birthday dinner. I got a free dinner for my birthday from Black Angus Steakhouse for joining their e-club, so we are going to use that coupon! I’ve also gotten birthday emails from Chili’s (Free dessert), Lonestar (Free appetizer) and Sephora (A¬†free philosophy body wash.)

Woo hoo for my birthday!

I’m not sure what we are going to do tomorrow… but it will be something birthday-rific!! ūüôā

Well, I’m going to go take a shower and get pretty for dinner.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! ūüôā

Saturday Afternoon at LACMA

On Saturday, I surprised the Teen by taking her to LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and it’s pronounced “lack-ma”) to see the Tim Burton Exhibit. My sister met us there too!

She was really excited! She likes Tim Burton a lot, and was “dying” to go. (Espeically once she saw the episode of Cupcake Wars where they made thier display for the opening of the exhibit.)

You can read a little about the exhibit HERE.

Cameras and cell phones were forbidden in the exhibit, so I didn’t¬†get to take any pictures of anything. I would have snuck a few but there were soooo¬†many people and many cranky security guards.¬† It was very interesting to see his sketches and other art work. I didn’t¬†get to see a lot of it, since I was trying to keep the Maniac entertained¬†and remotely quiet. I must say that was quite a challenge.

After the Tim Burton portion of our day, we wandered over to the La Brea Tar Pits. The first time my sister took the Teen there a few years ago, she didn’t¬†realize that they were real. I had never been there before. We didn’t go to the museum or anything… I don’t think a certain someone would have been up for that.¬† It was kind of cool to see though.

Then we had some lunch at Baja Fresh and we went back to the museum to look at some more art. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a real Picasso before. It was pretty cool.

I also thought the new Monet/Lichtenstein: Rouen¬†Cathedrals exhibit was interesting.¬† You can read about that HERE.¬† I would have to say that Monet is my favorite artist. (Do you say artist? Painter? Impressionist?) I have a few prints of his work hanging up. Waterlilies is my favorite… I know there are a bunch of them.. my very favorite is the one that (when I saw it and it could still be there) was at The Carnegie is Pittsburgh.

Anyway- Here are a few shots of some art that you were allowed to photograph:

My apologies to the artists, since I did not take note of who these works were by.

Here’s some art we got into literally:

And finally… we learned a little about the Chinese Zodiac.¬†

I am an Ox, The Teen is a Tiger, The Maniac is a Rat and my Sister is a Horse.

This one's for you Chickmommy!

We had a pretty good day.

We only got yelled at by security 4 times… no one fell in the fountain or broke any priceless works of art.¬† I call that successful.

Next time we go, I’m not taking the 3-year-old. ūüėČ

And on our way home, we got to swing by the airport and pick up my hubby! Definitely the best part of the day.
