My Summer Reading List *UPDATE*

I am sure you are just dying to know how I’m doing on my summer reading list challange to myself.

It’s been a month since I posted it. (Read it here)

Here’s My Updated list:

DONE!1. Bossypants- Tina Fey  I actually am about half way through this. It’s pretty funny, I was laughing just reading the back cover!  I love Tina Fey.  I thought it was funny! The stuff about her doing Sarah Palin was  interesting!

DONE! 2. Naptime is the New Happy Hour-  Stefanie Wilder-Taylor    I started reading this a while ago, then I lost it. After finding that it had fallen behind our bed, I plan on finishing it. It too is pretty funny.  It was amusing. I had a hard time finishing. I know its got “happy hour” in the title… but the amount of times she talks about drinking kind of bugged me.

3. Eat, Pray, Love.  A woman at work bought this for me for my birthday like 3 years ago. I started reading it once. I’d really like to read it in its entirety.

James Patterson is one of my favorite authors. Which is obvious from all of these books that I ordered and havent read.  These next ones are all him:

4. The Postcard Killers

5. Swimsuit

6-8 8th Confession DONE!, 9th Judgement, and 10th Anniversary (I havent gotten 10th anniversary yet since it just came out.. but I really want it!)

9. Worst Case

10. Cross Country

11. I, Alex Cross

12. Relentless- Dean Koontz

13. Your Heart Belongs to Me- Dean Koontz

14. The new Sookie Stackhouse novel . I can’t remember the title. I havent gotten it yet either, but its a must!

15. The other Charlaine Harris book I bought from a different series.. I also can’t remember the title… I have to find it.

16-? Anything else I get around to reading, should I make it this far down the list. I also currently have 4 books I got for free on my Kindle App on my phone, and a couple that the Teen got that I wouldn’t mind reading either.

DONE!17. The Lost Symbol- Dan Brown This should have been on the list to begin with. I really enjoyed it! I spent about 5 hours on Monday finishing it! I couldnt put it down! 🙂

DONE! 18. A trashy romance novel I downloaded for free on my Kindle App. 🙂

Yes, I survived the beach

I have seriously sat down and tried to write about our beach adventure at least 3 different times now. It all keeps turning into this hugely detailed really long ramble about our weekend.  I don’t think anyone really wants to know THAT much about the weekend. 🙂

We all ended up having a good time.

Screaming toddler and all. 🙂

We spent a while in traffic getting there, and getting the key to my Brother-in-law’s apartment was an adventure unto itself… but we at least had somewhere to pee and bathe.

an interesting commentary on my Brother-in-law

Oh, and when i say apartment, I really mean glorified closet. Its teeny tiny. It has a tiny sink, a tiny shower and a tiny stove. The funniest part is my Brother in law is far from a tiny guy! But it’s across the street from the beach, and he loves it.

the tiny sink

It turned out the be a beautiful day. It was only probably at most 75, cooler with the wind. There weren’t a ton of people there, which made it so much better. If the heatwave wasn’t over, it would have been a whole other story.

headed to the beach from my brother in law's apartment, the beach is on the other side of that wall across the street

my handy pink tent/sunshade

I picked up this sunshade on clearance at Target probably 6 years ago. Its small, but it a great place to hide from the sun, to read or for toddlers to nap.

Some gulls before KT chased them away

We also saw a bunch of Brown Pelicans diving into the water to catch their food. It was pretty incredible! I could have sat and watched them all day. It was hard to get a picture of it, they are fast! And we also saw some random wild parrots.

I have no idea what this is... but its a neat pic

this was supposed to be a picture of a dead stingray, but i seem to have had my finger over the lens

We think hubby got stung by a sting ray while he was in the ocean with K. He thought it was a jellyfish at first, but I don’t think jellyfish can make you bleed like he did.

sea weed!

In the picture below, there are two heads bobbing in the water, that would be hubby and K. I didn’t get in. I am not a fan of not knowing what is underneath me. It freaks me out. KT played in the waves for a while and had a blast. That water was COLD!

This is my fave pic of the day.

These are the kites from all the crazy kite boarders. I didn’t realize that it was really a thing, or that popular. There were a bunch of them, and those kites are HUGE! It was interesting to watch.

the remains of the sand castle after it was stomped on by a toddler

We made a nice little castle. Then it was destroyed by a mighty dragon… also known as the crazy toddler. She had just as much fun destroying it as building it.

another accidental pic that looks kind of neat. This was while we were walking to have dinner

We walked to 2nd street, which is where all the food, shopping and nightlife is. We ended up just going to Subway, since BIL told us to go the wrong way to go to some other restaurant. It was good though. i was starving and it totally hit the spot. On the way back from eating, we also stopped at an old-fashioned candy store. K was in heaven… she got Dr. Pepper flavored jelly bellies. We got K some jelly beans too. They were super pricey but they loved it. And there’s nothing that will shut a toddler up or make her scream like candy!

while we were sitting outside Subway eating dinner, a guy asked us to watch his dog while he went inside to get food

That was our day. There was traffic on the way home, and then we stayed up way too late watching weird shows on National Geographic channel.. like “Swamp People” about people who hunt alligators.  It was weird, but interesting.

And needless to say- we ALL slept in on Sunday!

And Sunday was full of laundry and togetherness.

to the beach!

My hubby decided we need to go to the beach today..

Can you tell how excited I am?

I’m not.

The beach would be a fine place to go except for 2 things, wait make that 3-

1. all the sand- it just gets everywhere.

2. taking the children

3. other people – can be rude or just get in your way

The kids have a great time at the beach. I do not.

My husband has a great time at the beach. I do not.

Chasing a toddler around in the sand is not my idea of a super fantastically fun afternoon. But she LOOOOOVES the beach. Last time we were there she had a blast picking up sea shells. The last time we went last summer she got soaked and then rolled around in the sand. Fun for her- not fun for me to clean her up.

Maybe I have a bad attitude about it. Maybe this time it will be better.

We do have a “base of operations” this time. My brother in law’s apartment is across the street from the beach- literally. I guess if it is too horrible I could go hide there. Make hubby deal with the holy terror that is our toddler all by himself for a while. That would be entertaining to see. He hasn’t really been anywhere in public with her since he’s been back… or since she started screaming at the drop of a hat.

All I would really like to do is just lay/sit there and read. No distractions. That would be nice.

I know this “cheap” trip is inevitably going to cost us more than the nothing hubby claims it will be.  Its 50+ miles each way buddy = gas $!!

In the spirit of family fun I will suck it up and go. We haven’t done anything together in so long.

I will put on my happy “I love the beach” face.

I will spay sunscreen on everyone, more than once.

I will follow the toddler around while she picks up sea shells, and make sure she doesn’t step on or pick up anything icky, painful or decaying.

I will take pictures.

I will probably gawk at passers-by, they can be so entertaining sometimes.

I will hopefully get a break if a small someone takes a nap, as doubtful as that may be with all the excitement.

I will do my best to have a good time.

I will complain/vent about it tomorrow when if I don’t.

So it’s off to the beach for me!

woo. I still don’t sound excited. Do I?

Its hot.

OMG. You’d think after living in Las Vegas for almost 10 years I could handle a little heat. It’s 102 right now, and I’m melting. I’ve turned into such a wimp since we moved to California.

I have errands to run, sand to play in.. And I really don’t want to leave the comfort of my A/C, even though I’m having some cabin fever because we haven’t left the house since the movie Wednesday morning.

I think the dog is melting too.
