My husband is coming home sometime today. (When that is all depends on how long it takes to get his two flat tires taken care of.  Super fun. )

One of my very best friends is coming tomorrow.

So, I REALLY need to be cleaning the house.

I don’t feel like it.

I need some coffee.

But I don’t feel like making any.

There is laundry that needs done.

I sure don’t feel like doing that.

I have gotten out of bed. That is a step in the right direction.

I did manage to pay some bills… not that I actually felt like doing that… but I like having electricity and water and the internet.

I probably need to go to the grocery store.

And I am pretty sure I need to go buy diapers.

Going out in this crazy wind with a crazy toddler sure doesnt sound like anything I feel like doing right now.

What do I feel like doing?

Hmmm…. eating some ice cream might be nice, with lots of gooey caramel.

Watching something other than Dora the explorer or Spongebob.

Curling up in bed under the covers reading a book- uninterrupted by small people jumping on me, hitting me, or bugging me in any way.

Maybe taking a nap, or a leisurely bubble bath.

I’m obviously living in fantasy land today.. since none of that is going to happen….

Well.. I could make the ice cream happen.

We do have ice cream. And caramel…

Its better than nothing I guess.

Sleepless ramblings that started at 2am this morning…

So this must be the night I drive myself insane this week.

I thought I was doing better in the me vs things that go bump in the night arena. Granted, I have been staying up until like 3 every night this week watching tv until I pass out… Which helps. But not so much in the waking up early with the toddler.

I’m just jumpy tonight. Which I hate.

I was hoping to fall asleep before 2.. But alas it’s 2:08. Logically I know that the house is probably just creaking, since I have been keeping the heat lower than normal in an effort to not have a skyrocketing gas bill. I don’t hear all the creaks and pops that freak me out when the heat is on.

My feet are freezing… Maybe I should go turn it up a degree or two. Maybe that will help me sleep.

*     *       *      *      *

So I turned up the heat.
It’s now 4:16am.

My night thus far:
2:30 fell asleep with the lights on.
3:00 hubby called to say he was done working and going to bed.
4:00 woke up to pee.
4:06 dozed off, only to awaken suddenly after hearing imaginary noise.

Yea. I’m tired.

*    *    *    *    *

Somewhere between 6 and 6:30… Rudely awakened by a toddler wanting juice and Cheerios. I say rudely because I believe that she punched me or hit me. And then was climbing on me to try to wake me up. So much fun.

Finally I dragged my super tired butt downstairs to get the juice and Cheerios. Now spongebob is on the tv and I can only hope she falls back to sleep when she’s done eating. I doubt I will make it that long.

*     *      *      *      *       *

Well, it is not well into the afternoon. 3:20 to be exact.

I think I passed out again right after I delivered the juice and Cheerios to she who beckoned for them. At some point she curled up with me and went back to sleep.  I figured that would happen.

I finally got up and moving at about 11. She didn’t get up until noon. Which gave me a little time to pick up the living room and fold some towels.

I guess I should go tend to my laundry… I needed to wash the sheets since when my dear toddler woke up, she and my bed were covered in pee.  Seriously, she was soaked from her neck to her knees. I will never understand how that happens… other than I wasnt conscious enough to change her before I went back to sleep this morning.

I guess I’ve bored you enough with my ramblings for today…

Please take a nap

Oh my sweet toddler…

Please take a nap.

It’s been a long day. Mama needs a break.

Its 5:15pm. You should have slept and gotten up by now.

But you havent even dozed, snoozed or sawed one long.

I thought you were close a few hours ago… all cozy under your blanket…

but you got peppy again.

Please take a nap.Very very soon.

Oh, and don’t sleep too long, because Mama would like to go to sleep before Midnight.

now I may be asking too much…

But please just take a nap.

Hello night… we meet again.

So the last time I posted about my war between sleep and things that go bump in the night, the score was Sleep-1 Bumps in the Night-3.

As of right now it is Sleep-2 Bumps in the night-4. But the night is young.. it can still go either way. Last night was bad.

I was going to call it a draw – I fell asleep at about 1:30am. I consider anything before 2 golden anymore. I had a little freak out about 12:30.. I thought all was well. But nooooooooooo…. 2:16 am I awake with my heart pounding for no real reason I could make out. The Direct Tv box was resetting itself, which I thought was weird, but whatever. I think it must have been the click of it turning back on that woke me… maybe? Who knows.

I managed to fall back to sleep… briefly. 3:19 am- same thing happened. Woke up heart trying to pound its way out of my chest. I really HATE that feeling. All I really want is to sleep.. wonderful sleep, full of dreams of sugar-plum fairies and purring kittens… ahhh.. that would be so nice.

Moments after waking up the second time… the dog FREAKED out barking at something… complete with a huge noise- once again scaring the ever-loving-crap out of me. UGH. Breathe please. Remain clam. I’m fairly certain it was a cat again, or some other nocturnal critter. The big noise was him jumping up to chase said critter and hitting and moving the screen door (for the sliding patio doors). Stupid dog. Stupid critter. Stupid jumpy me.

When I went downstairs for the .. uh.. fourth time (I think) because he kept freaking out, I went to get a drink and noticed tha the clock on the stove was blinking… the power had gone off in those 45 minutes I was sleeping the first time. (Thank goodness I was sleeping.. I couldn’t have handled that.) But that explains the Direct tv resetting itself. Of course that just sent my brain and very vivid imagination into a tizzy. Ugh, Needless to say, I made sure there is a flashlight within my reach.

After tonight.. I only have 6 more nights to go until my hubby gets home. He will be home thursday morning. So long Hellaska! Hello Honey! I can’t even begin to put into words how excited I am to have him home. And its supposed to be for “a while.” But knowing the way these people operate, that could really mean anything. I would just appreciate a few weeks… get some much-needed rest. Get away from the children for some me time… ahhh….

Me time. What a novel concept. The grocery store without screaming, begging, grabbing… getting a coffee… going to the farmers market. Going anywhere for that matter, At this point – going to the dentist for a root canal BY MYSELF would be AWESOME.

After this whole experience, I have an incredible respect for single moms. I have no idea how they do it. They are awesome, I can not even fathom working full-time, taking care of the kids, running the house… doing it all, all alone, all the time. Kudos to those who do it! You are amazing.

It is now 1:18am. In the time I have been typing this the dog has barked crazily twice and I have developed some Dr.Pepper induced heart burn. Fun. I’m going to go find some Tums and then give this sleeping thing a whirl. I am pretty exhausted… three hours of sleep will do that, Let’s hope sleep wins this battle…

Until next time…

Another episode in the continuing saga of Sleep -vs- Bumps in the night..

If you are keeping track… The score is now Sleep-1 Bumps in the Night-3

This was my night.
12:34am: KT finally goes to sleep. The 6:30 nap- not a great plan.
1:30am: my iPhone finally finishes syncing. It seriously took forever!
1:35am: I actually doze off
2:15am: I wake up hacking on the phlegm in my throat/have to pee
2:25am: doze off again
2:55am: did I hear a noise that woke me up again?
3:00am: dog starts barking at the neighbor leaving
3:06am: dog starts barking at neighbor coming back. Where he went for 5 minutes I have no idea.
3:16am: dog starts freaking out with that something is out there bark, knocking something over, scaring the bejeezus out of me once again. I’m assuming there was a cat- Who obviously didn’t learn his lesson last time or didn’t get the meowmo (Get it, Meow + Memo? okay it was probably funnier in my head) about the giant dog in our yard who doesn’t like cats.
3:30am: can’t sleep so I downloaded some songs from iTunes that K asked for.
3:40am: found my toe ring that vanished stuck to the embroidery on my comforter.
3:43am: started writing this post
3:51am: wondering if I’m ever going to sleep….
4:00am: sprinklers come on… Man they are loud! I hate when I’m up for that.
4:02am: weird noise from outside downstairs- go make sure it was just the dog.
4:03am: yea it was a tail on the screen door. Let him in for a few minutes. He sneezes wildly and loudly to stir KT, he hunts a fly or two.
4:10am: fridge makes a really weird noise. That I’m hoping isn’t as bad as I think it could be. Well see if it’s still cold in a few hours.
4:14am: put the dog back outside and go back upstairs.
4:17am: pee and get back into bed… Let’s try this sleeping thing again.
4:30am: I actually fell asleep! Yay!
5:16:am: “Mama, I bump my head.  I want milk.” ugh.
5:30am: after getting milk, (Yay! the fridge is alive!) changing a diaper, cleaning up milk spilled on the bed five seconds after handing her the cup… Finally some sleep.
10:36am “Mama I want juice.”
And I’m up.

Minions and Schmucks and Noodles! Oh My!

I think we had a pretty okay weekend.

Saturday was fairly uneventful. I slept in until about 1. Which is highly unusual luckily K watched KT so I could sleep. I had another bad night trying to sleep and I had a headache and just couldn’t stay awake. KT woke me up about 10 or so wanting  juice and “Mama ‘m soaking wet! It’s on my legs and feet!” Ugh. So I made a juice run to the kitchen, changed the soggy mess, put on Nick Jr and that’s all I remember until hubby called and woke me up.  After that I found some motivation and actually emptied a few boxes in the garage.

I had been planning on taking the kids to the drive in on Friday night. But I somehow managed to lose the $40 that was going to fund the excursion. Biggest.bonehead.ever. I know it was in my pocket when we were at orientation at school and then it was gone. I probably had my phone (or keys) in that pocket and it fell out when I took the phone out. UGH. Sadly it’s not the first time this has happened. Last time it was $12.  So I felt stupid,  was mad at myself, and was feeling really sad that P couldn’t come home this weekend. I decided that we should just stay home.  So after getting over the sting of losing the money, I decided to go  anyway. We all needed to get out of the house.

After removing the stroller and various randomness from the back of the truck, we filled it with pillows and blankets and such. I ordered a pizza to pick up – can’t beat the Domino’s large one topping with extra cheese for $6.99 carry out special!  (If i had that same pizza delivered it would have cost almost $20.) We got in the truck and away we went! We ran into Fresh & Easy  and got some drinks, popcorn and candy.  Went to the ATM, and then picked up the pizza. Katie saying “I want go to movie theatre!” the whole way!

I had decided that we were going to go see “Despicable Me.” The other option was the Dogs & Cats  movie and I am seriously not sitting through that. Yuck-O.  It was a cute movie, as far a kids movies go. I’ve seen better – I’ve seen worse. The best part was when the minions said “Oh poop.”  KT was really fidgety most of the time and ate a boat load of “Pock-corn” and she couldn’t get enough “Noodles” which in her world are Skittles. I’m not sure why she calls them that, but she does.  I really wanted to stay for the 2nd movie with was “Dinner for Schmucks.” I don’t ever get to go to the movies without the children so I wanted to see it for me. It’s not something I normally would have let K see….We’re usually pretty strict about what we let her watch. But she’s growing up, and she’s really seen a lot more PG-13 movies lately than ever before.

I usually go to kids-in-mind.com to get an idea of what a movie really has in it. They rate the movies from 0-10 on the Sex & nudity, Violence/Gore and Profanity. So all the movies have a rating like 6.5.2. Then they describe all of the incidents in each category. It’s very specific.  They also list discussion topics and the moral of the story.  I think it’s a fantastic site! they also have an iPhone app now!

So Dinner for Schmucks was 6.5.5. (Despicable Me was 2.3.2 in case you were wondering.) It had a little more sexual content than I normally let her see… but it wasn’t really overt, and I’m pretty sure most of it went over her head. At least I hope it did. (fingers crossed!) And she was half asleep through some of it. I liked it. It wasn’t as hilarious as I wanted it to be…. but I don’t think anything will ever be as funny as the Hangover was!

So we got back late, I hoped I could sleep… but that didn’t happen until about 3 or so… read last nights sleepless post here. I think I decided that the noise I heard also could have been a shovel being knocked over… I noticed it was on the ground today and then I knocked it over too.  Who knows.  Lets hope sleep wins one of these nights.

Despite being up until 3, I managed to get up at 9 this morning. Not out of my own free will mind you.. a certain small person was beckoning for me.  I do give myself kudos for staying awake after that!  Yay me! We cleaned up the house a little bit, I took a shower, went to the store for juice and milk. And then we headed to meet my sister at IKEA in Costa Mesa. I have never been to IKEA before.  We had one back in PA, but never actually went. And for some strange reason that no one can figure out: there  isn’t one in Las Vegas.  (Vegas also doesn’t have a Chick-fil-a) So this was my first adventure/experience at IKEA.

Traffic was bad, I got lost, and my sister sat there for 45 minutes waiting for us.  We did finally make it! It was insane! I don’t think I’ve ever been to a store where there were just hoards of people walking in, walking out… just everywhere!  I don’t think I’ve ever been in an elevator that will hold 2 strollers and e shopping carts! It was seriously the craziest place I think I’ve ever been.

*If you didn’t catch this on today’s Freshly pressed, here is a very entertaining blog about a trip to IKEA.

KT was making our “shopping list” or scribbling on an order form to stay occupied. But that meant that she dropped the pencil and the catalog she was holding about 150 times. She was pretty good overall. After finding my sister’s “Billy” bookshelf and lots of goodies I wasn’t intending on buying.. (although I did get some cute and inexpensive flower pots for my Hibiscus I bought a few weeks ago.) we headed to the checkout! $27 later we were ready to get some frozen yogurt!

KT +frozen yogurt was definitely interesting. She loves ice cream, but I usually just give her a little bit at a time on a spoon, she’s never really had a cone before. She liked it a bit and then started trying to eat the cone! It turned into quite a drippy mess… then she dropped it in the cup holder in her stroller. Yay. Oh, and she proceeded to finish what was left of my cone at that moment when I tried to clean it up! It was really less messy than I thought it would turn out to be.

After a lovely drive home, with very little traffic. we stopped to wash the truck that was so dirty it was brown and not blue anymore.  I cleaned up a little more, KT got sand in her eye, smashed her finger between the couch and the wall, and we ate some left over pizza for dinner. Now if only I could get her to go to sleep. She is seriously wound up!

I guess I should have posted this last night… but I once I actually got the maniac to go to sleep. I got sidetracked watching the new episode of True Blood and then I had a pounding headache and I actually went to sleep BEFORE 3 Am!  WOOOO HOOOOOO!   if you are keeping track, that is Sleep 1 Bumps in the night 2!

And more interestingly I got up at 9, and was moderately productive! I cleaned my bathroom, tidied up the bedroom, swept & mopped the linoleum in the kitchen/dining area/entry way, and vacuumed the living room. I know its pretty amazing… I think I may be really getting back into the swing of things. Which is just in time since SCHOOL STARTS ON WEDNESDAY! Not that I am excited or anything…  K sure isn’t.

Oh well.. i must go find some lunch to feed a small maniac who is throwing dirty socks at me.  Until next time!

Sleep- 0 Bumps in the night- 2

Just as I was thinking that I seemed sort of calm tonight and I was actually going to go to sleep without freaking out.. the dog started barking. And not just regular barking but it was the “hey-there-is-someone-or-something-out-here-that-shouldn’t-be” bark accompanied by a noise. Great. So much for my nerves.

I looked out my bedroom window that faces the street and I didn’t see anyone. I did see a cat crossing a neighbors driveway. I think it was the cat that he was freaking out about. The more I think about it, the noise could have been a cat being chased over the fence and onto the trash cans. I didn’t hear it very clearly because the tv was on.

But even after the cat walked down the street he did bark a couple more times. Much to the dismay of my nerves. I didn’t see anything happening at the neighbors, and I went downstairs and turned te light on out back. The dog was pretty wound up… He was scratching at the door so I let him in. We’ll see how long that lasts this time.

Hopefully I can sleep now. I haven’t heard anything other than him licking himself over in the corner… But the night is still young. Ugh. I have too much to do tomorrow to sleep all day again. I have to get the house ready for it’s “yearly inspection” by the management company. Which I think is really weird since we’ve only beenhere for 2 months and I thought they wouldve inspected everything before we moved in. But whatever, there are a few things they could fix. And the letter we got said tht all the soiderwebs had to be cleaned off the outside of the house. Yea. That’s going to happen.

The patio has one of those sort of covered things going on.. Which is almost completely engulfed in spider webs. Because I’m going to go knok down webs above my head.. Um..no thank you. It gives me the Heebie jeebies just thinking about it!

Okay enough of that! It’s now 3am. Maybe sleep can finally win a round.
