Who killed my yoga buzz?

Well, it is the end of my 3rd week at the gym.

I’m still going strong! And hopefully getting stronger. ūüôā

I went to yoga this morning… I like yoga even though it’s hard and it makes you sweat more than you ever thought it would. My favorite part is the end when you just lie there and relax. Ahhh.. so wonderful.¬†

Shiny happy relaxed yoga buzz.

My money was on the kids for ruining that feeling for me this morning. But now, after being on hold for 14 minutes and counting with my health insurance company, I think they are going to have the honor today.

Some guy answered the phone about 5 minutes into being on hold and took all my info looked up my account and when I told him I wanted to make a payment he said someone else needed to do it. Whatever. So annoying. It’s nice that my exorbitant premiums are paying their salaries¬†to let¬†me to sit on hold…

16minutes 32 seconds….

It seriously pains me to make this payment. If only we could find something more affordable. This is what is putting us into financial ruin at the moment.

Well, that and hubby not working for 2 and a half weeks. That surely will do it.

The good news is that he’s heading back to the east coast on Friday for a few weeks.¬† As much as that totally stinks… at least we will be able to pay the rent for July. It’s the little things right?

Wow. 18 minutes and 48 seconds and they actually answered the phone.

Total call time: 22 minutes.   Yeesh.

Anyway-¬† Even though i¬†still feel like I’m up a creek without a paddle some days, I’m trying to keep a positive attitude about it.¬† I could very well just be sitting around moping about it… I could be seriously depressed. Really… it wouldn’t be that hard. But I have to keep the faith.

I KNOW it will all work out.

I KNOW somehow we will be okay.

I CAN’T let it get me down.

After reading this post from (a wonderful blogger who is one of the few people I know to actually read my ramblings) PlaneJaner- Lifeboat

I’ve decided that my new motto is:

When up a creek without a paddle- sing show tunes (or at least something from Glee!)!

With that I must go for now. I have a million things I want to try to write about this week.¬† But, I must go get ready to take the Maniac to the library for story time! ūüôā

No Wonder My Health Insurance is SO Expensive

I got a refund check in the mail from my idiotic¬† wonderful (please note the “wonderful” is¬†completely¬†drenched in sarcasm)¬†health insurance company today. I’m not sure why I¬†received this refund… especially, when the check stub says “Refund Explanation: 02 Insufficient Payment.”

Umm… okay.

So, I’m sure you are dying to know how much my new fortune is.

You might want to sit down for this.

Twenty Seven CENTS.

You heard me right.

I know, it’s so ridiculous, I’ll say it again…

If you don’t believe me here’s a picture…

Yep.. a check for 27 cents.

The postage to mail this check was 36 cents. I bet the paper and window envelope, the ink to print it, and whatever salary they paid the person who iI assume handled it at some point… cost MORE than 27 cents.¬†

Let us also take a moment to remember the tree that gave it’s life for this 27 cent check. What happened to going green?
Seriously people, ¬†couldn’t you just deduct it from my premium? My already incredibly exorbitant premiums that you are RAISING by $87 a month in July.
I would not have minded only paying $83.73 extra.

I’m surprisingly chipper for it being monday.

**So, I thought I posted this, but it seems that I didnt. Hmmm… weird.

It is a beautiful, sunny Monday morning.

I havent had any coffee, yet I am surprisingly chipper.

The good news, Hubby is on his way out-of-town¬†to work this week! YES!!!!! Don’t get me wrong, I hate when he’s gone, and would always rather have him home… just home and working. He didn’t¬†work at all last week. Which is definitely going to make the next couple weeks really tough.¬†. Thanks to the wonderful people at¬†his office, and him being such a good employee.. we should be able to pay the rent. Whew. I was really worried about that. It’s just the few other things that are due between now and him getting paid the next time that are going to be tricky. Somehow it will work out though.

So, the Teen spent ALL weekend working on her book report that is due today. I discovered on Thursday that this assignment was due today. She had been working on it since Monday.. and she barely had anything done by Thursday.  The assignment was that they had to read a book (obviously, it is a book report), write a summary of each chapter(Which were turned in last week), and then make a booklet that included pictures detailing things like the protagonist, setting, conflict, climax, resolution, and some personal thoughts about the book.

Personally, I would think that she content of this booklet would be the most important part of this assignment. Oh no..not to the Teen. She spent THREE days on the pictures for her DRAFT! Not even the real ones.. on her draft. They were colored and everything. When I questioned her about it, she “had to plan what she was going to draw.” Okay, I get that.. but its a draft!

So, she spent Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday working on the content. Which, I felt she really did most of it on Sunday. I felt like she was just writing stuff to write stuff, and not really answering the questions that the teacher was asking her to answer.

She really just drove me crazy with it all weekend. She would¬†ask for help, and then get totally defensive every time I gave her an answer. She had such a bad attitude about it too. Every time I asked a question (I havent read the book, all I know about it is what I’m¬†reading in her work) she wouldn’t¬†answer it.. she would just¬†say “It’s wrong” or “its bad I’ll change it.” I don’t¬†know how many times i said “I’ll change it does not answer my question.”

SOOOOO¬†frustrating. Part of me hopes she gets a crappy grade on it. Maybe it will teach her¬†a lesson. If you do crappy work, you get crappy grades. It seriously¬†looked like she did it last-minute. It was messy, she doesn’t¬†have the best handwriting in the world, so she needed to be extra careful and take her time writing it. She just scribbled the last couple pages. She didn’t check her spelling or punctuation and at some point she stopped erasing her mistakes, and just wrote over them. UGH. It makes me crazy thinking that she turned this thing in looking the way it did. I just have to hope her teacher feels the same way.¬† She also chose not to get up early and fix it either. So it’s really on her.

Oh, and I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing here… but she has had the information about her school field trip in her backpack for over a week now. She mentioned it when she brought the paper home. Last week when¬†I was doing a random check of her backpack (to make sure there wasnt any food rotting in it) I saw the paper in her binder. I read it and put it back. She keeps talking about going, But the paper has still not made it into my hands. She has to have the money and the permission slip turned in this Friday. I feel like if she wants to go, its her responsibility to give me the info. As far as she knows, I have no idea about any of it.¬†¬† We’ll see… what happens this week. I hope she realizes that if she gives it to me friday morning, she’s¬†out of luck. Other than my “I dont sign things 5 minutes before you’re leaving” policy, I have to give them cash and I¬†don’t normally have any.

Oh, so how about this Osama Bin Laden being dead thing? Crazy. After all this time, did you ever think we’d see the day?¬† I found out thanks to Facebook. Gotta love social networking! I was giving the Maniac a bath, and my phone dinged that I had a text and it was an update from a friends FB status…I put on the news and there it was.¬† Unbelievable. I watched the President’s address, I thought he did a great job. I wonder how excited he was on the inside?¬† Do you think he wanted to skip for joy back down that hallway when he was done? ūüôā It is a funny thought though.

Well.. I’m going to go entertain the Maniac¬†for a while. Then I¬†have some coupons to clip! Oh-¬†and how annoying is this? I went to the grocery store yesterday morning to get milk. I ran into the Dollar Tree to grab a couple extra newspapers since there are some good coupons this week. (At the Dollar Tree the papers are only $1 and not $1.50!)¬† Later in the day I went to get the coupons out of the paper and they werent’ there! Not in any of them! SOOOO¬†ANNOYING! I went to Walgreens¬†and their papers didn’t¬†have them either. GRRR. It is my understanding, that they put the inserts in the subscription papers first and then the store ones.. so they could have run out. Who knows. But it’s still annoying. I ended up ordering some on CollectableCoupons.com.

Happy monday to you! ūüôā

My day of unplugging = almost an epic fail.

So, on  Saturday I tried to unplug for the day. I really did.

After my last post, I actually wrote another quick post for my other blog, and shut off the computer. That part was easy. I did not open my computer again until Sunday morning.

That pesky little computer, otherwise known as my iPhone, in my pocket on the other hand…¬†¬† was amazingly hard to stay away from.¬†

I did fairly well most of the day.¬† I did hubby’s laundry, watch the Toddler run around outside for a while… helped her try to ride her bike, blew some bubbles… it was a little chilly, but it was nice. This was while my darling Hubby changed the oil in the truck.¬† (Yay for fresh oil! And she even got new tires saturday too!)

Anyway- then we decided that we were going to head to the drive in! To see “THE WANGO MOOO-VEEEEE” ! The Toddler was very very excited to go. I put her “in charge” of having Daddy get the pillows and blankets together while I ran to the dollar store for candy and popcorn.. and got some Taco Bell for dinner.

Can I just go off on a tangent about the drive in for a minute? I LOVE the Drive in. It is such a better deal than going to the regular movies- especially with a toddler.¬† Let’s do the math:

Regular movies: $12 a person x 3 = $36, not including the toddler                    Drive In: $7 a person x 3 =$21 and kids under 5 are FREE! Oh, and did I mention that is for TWO movies? Double Feature! YAY!

Regular Movies: An arm and a leg and your first-born.  Or at least $18 for 2 medium drinks and a large popcorn.                                                                                  Drive In: Bring your own!  I spent $19 at the dollar store for 3 20 oz bottles of soda, a 4 pack of microwave popcorn, fancy popcorn bags to put it in and an abundance of candy.

So, it was definitely the better way to go. We spent $50 for Dinner, two movies and more snacks than we could eat. I think that’s a good deal, and it was fun- once the Toddler fell asleep that is. Oh, and we saw Rango and Red Riding Hood. Rango was eh. Red Riding Hood was pretty good. I think it was trying too hard to be twilighty though. I was really amused by the fact that Red Riding Hood’ s dad was played by Billy Burke who plays Bella’s dad in the Twilight Saga.¬† ūüôā

Anyway- back to being unplugged.

We were in the truck on our way to the drive in and my phone dinged that little sound it makes when I get a text. (I knew I should have just shut the phone OFF.)You know the one… you hear it everywhere… any movie or tv show that has iPhones has that sound.¬† I looked at it.

It was a status update from Facebook from my Brother in law, or his ex girlfriend… I can’t remember which one it was that time. They were having some serious passive-aggressive thing going on about custody of an iPod and silverware and it was all pretty darn hilarious. I don’t know why one didn’t just unfriend the other already. They were blaming each other for being childish, or “putting their shortcomings” on the other… whatever. They were both being pretty childish if you ask me. At least my brother-in-law finally unfriended her yesterday. So now the unfriend-er is asking me about the¬†unfriend-ee’s Facebook posts. So funny. Cracks.me.up!

That was it. That post has me glued back to the screen. I posted a picture of an excited toddler with her “pock-corn” in hand and I was thoroughly plugged in again.

¬†Oh well. I made it a few hours. I guess it wasnt an EPIC FAIL per say…. but it was a FAIL none-the-less.

Next time- I am shutting off the phone.

Coupon Love!

I know you will probably think I am weird but…

I LOVE LOVE LOVE grocery shopping.

I don’t know what it is exactly, but I could go to the grocery store every single day if I had the money to do so.¬†¬† And since I discovered the magical wonderful world of couponing I love it even more.

To me, couponing  is about the challenge of getting a good deal, making my grocery budget go farther and beating my own personal best savings percentage.

As of yesterday, my personal best is 61%. Boo-yah. ūüôā

I spent $52 on $130 worth of groceries.¬† I bought 57 items… that means I averaged $.90 per item. And considering those 57 items included:

8 boxes of cereal, 15 cans of frozen juice concentrate, 4 boxes of fruit snacks,¬† dishwasher detergent, 12 pk of Toilet paper, 6 pk of paper towels, 2 lbs bananas and 2.5 lbs of oranges…

I think I did pretty darn good.

I’m not quite an “extreme couponer” like the Coupon Mom or the Krazy Coupon Lady.. But I think I do pretty well.¬† And if you have ever seen the “Extreme Couponing”¬†show on TLC you know what I mean. Those¬†folks are hard-core, and one guy they highlighted, spent $240 on $5000 worth of stuff.

Honestly, I’m not really sure how they do that.. especially with a lot of stores having limits on how many coupons you can use. I know that at Vons (where I shop most often) they will only accept 4 of the same coupon at one time. And they only double the first one. Oh well.. more power to them if they can do it.

Anyway- there are actually (A LOT of) books out there to help you start on your couponing quest. I got the Coupon Mom’s book. It has a lot of helpful hints.¬† When¬†I first got the book, I found that I was already doing some of the things she suggests. (I just discovered the Krazy Coupon Lady a couple of days ago on Facebook. She seems to post good deals all throughout the day!)

Good couponing is really all about planning.  If you just take a little time and check out the grocery store ads, meal plan with what you already have at home and  buy whats on sale and you have coupons for you will save big bucks!

Something a lot of people don’t know… you can use a STORE COUPON and a MANUFACTURERS COUPON at the same time on the same item!¬†¬†That can help add up to big savings!

I have 4 different grocery stores within about 5 miles of my home. Vons, Stater Brothers, Albertsons and Ralphs.¬† Two double coupons, two don’t. Of course the two closest are the ones that don’t.

I shop mostly at VONS. Every week they have a selection of store coupons in their sales flier.  And these deals are usually pretty good. But when you add manufacturers coupons to them, they are even better!

For Example- last week they had a coupon for Ken’s Salad Dressing, which regular price is around $3.99. It was on sale for the “Club Price” of 2/$5.

The coupon in the sales ad was $1.19 each with a limit of 2.¬† Throw in a Save $1.00 on two bottles and you have 2 bottles of salad dressing for $1.38! That’s $.69 each!

Shall I go on?   Cereal.

Cereal is crazy expensive. I won’t pay more than $1.00 a box anymore.

Vons was having a buy 4 save $4 sale They were¬†at the “Club Price” $2.49 a box. Save $4 makes it $1.49 a box.¬† Throw in a Save $.55 on Cinnamon Toast Crunch Coupon (Doubled to $1.00), Save $1.00 on Cinnamon Cheerios, Save $1.00 on 2 boxes, and a $.55 ecoupon (that I forgot was on my card) and you end up with:¬†¬†¬†¬† 4 boxes of cereal regular price $15.56 for drumroll please….

¬†$2.41! That’s $.61 a box! ¬†Ta Da!

I could go on all day… the trash bags… the fruit snacks… toothpaste…. ¬†lysol wipes…¬† I got some laundry soap today for $1.99 and fabric softener for $1.69 at Target.¬†

One thing I find very helpful.. I print coupons from the internet, and you can add ecoupons to your store savings cards in a lot of places.

I go to the following websites on a regular basis to print coupons:

coupons.com, shortcuts.com. albertsons.com. vons.com. The vons and albertsons unless otherwise specified are manufacturer coupons so they can be used anywhere.

I’ve also joined Vocalpoint.com. you can sign up for samples and coupons… and when they send out coupons they are usually pretty good. They are mostly for new products they want you to try. But I got like $2.50 a bottle of Downey fabric softener, and then 3 or 4 other $1.00 off coupons to share. (or keep!)¬† They are also fun to follow in Facebook. They get a lot of interesting conversation going, and helpful hints!

Then there is Upromise.com… where you can earn savings to send your kid to college. I¬† don’t really use this one as much as I probably should..

Anyway- one of the other tricks is to make sure you have more than one coupon so you can stock up! I have a subscription to the Sunday Paper.  (Which I pay $1 a week for.) Some of the Coupon Queens out there suggest getting 6-8. That seems like a huge waste of newspaper to me. So, if I find a weeks coupons were especially good, I will buy extra copies of the inserts from a clipping service. I go to CollectableCoupons.com. They have them individually or by the insert for a small handling fee. I have some that should be arriving within a couple of days actually!

¬†I could just go on and on and on about my couponing adventures….

If you want to know more, just ask! ūüôā Or check out any of the links I’ve provided for your shopping¬†nd saving pleasure!

Happy Couponing! ūüėÄ

…and exhale

….and exhale.

That would be a deep sigh of relief.

For the first time in about 6 months, I feel like there is hope for us.

Financially that is.

There is¬†a beautiful bright spot of hope on the horizon… our tax refund.

Three cheers for the IRS!

HIp Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray!

Granted, it would be a lot more had we taken care of 2009 tax debacle in a more timely manner.  But that will no longer be hanging over our heads, and we will come out a little bit ahead.  YES!

Enough ahead that we can get (desperately needed) new tires on the truck and catch up on a couple of things we are on the verge of being behind on or just put it in the bank.  Putting it in the bank is probably the better way to go, but at the same time, we are never going to get ahead if we are constantly behind. Right?

(Oh, and we got a letter the other day that hubby had about $300 left over from an old 401K that had gone unclaimed… so we should hopefully be getting that sometime¬† too! Sweet!)

All I know¬†is that¬†I felt like a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders yesterday once I got the taxes filed. We should have our refund in 8-14 days(hopefully).. as long as our bill from last year doesn’t mess things up.¬†

Although, I’m confident that the IRS will figure it out. ūüôā

Happy Wednesday! ūüôā

If you don’t want to listen to me whine, complain or vent, don’t read this post.

I hate whining and complaining about the state of our finances.

 So, I apologize in advance.

It’s just been on my mind the last couple days. A LOT.

Of course, this is mainly because hubby is not working AGAIN this week.

It’s so frustrating. Yes, I am happy that he is here. But at the same time, makes me crazy knowing that the rent is coming up again, and we can’t pay the rent on half a paycheck.

Every time this happens it gets scarier and scarier.

Last month, he got some side work that covered what was needed. This time the side work guy,¬†who said he has some stuff coming up, hasn’t returned hubby’s phone calls. Which stresses me out even more.¬† Especially since I added up the stuff that we have to pay next week in addition to the rent and I just about cried. I paid everything I could with his last check, which wasnt a full check either… ugh.

Is this ever going to end? Are we ever going to catch a break?

They claim that they have so much work in february to not expect him to be home at all. But what do we do in the mean time?

Ever time I get us close to having our heads above water again, he has a week where he doesn’t¬†work.¬† I don’t¬†know how long we can keep it going without getting in some real dire straights.

I wish I could find a job that I can do at home, on my craptastic computer, with a crazy, loud toddler around.

I guess I just keep dreaming, and praying and I have to try to stay positive.

Maybe I need to visualize us winning the lottery. Like the lady did in an article my cousin posted on facebook yesterday.

But I guess you have to play to win.
