New Years Resolutions: 2012 Edition

My final post of 2011…

 my 2012 New Years Resolutions!

I know you’ve been dying to read them! haha!

1. Find that pesky ever-elusive financial health. Yea, we are starting off 2012 in the same pickle as we started 2011. Hubby hasn’t worked for 2 weeks and he will be off for 3 before he hits the road again. We are going to have to make some serious changes this year. First up, I refuse to any longer be the one who is solely responsible for paying the bills. Its exhausting and not fair.

2. Lose 25 pounds.

3. Be a better Auntie.  I want to be the kind of Aunt that I had as a kid. And I have some pretty fantastic Aunts! 🙂 And I’m not just saying that for the one who may be reading this! She is an awesome lady! 🙂

4. Read more.

5. Try one new recipe every week  (and blog about it.)

6. Keep on blogging.

7. Clean out my email inbox and my WordPress draft boxes. I am not kidding when I say I have over 9,000 emails in my inbox that have never been read. I really need to work on that. It was almost 11,000 last week I did delete a few.

8. Learn how to purge. We have a garage full of stuff that I can’t seem to get rid of. It’s really gotta go.

9. Make my etsy store a real business.  I actually made some pretty okay sales for Christmas. And that was just starting in November. Imagine what I could do if I started before that!

10. Go through and organize the bazillion pictures that are on my computer.

There you have it. I guess a lot of them are more like goals than resolutions. But at least I think most of them are attainable.

I wish you a safe, happy, healthy, prosperous wonderful New Year!

2011 New Years Resolutions- the final results

Christmas went by in a flash.

Now its only a few days until 2012 is here.

Where did 2011 go?

Despite the ups and downs… I think it was a pretty good year.

I managed to keep a few of last years resolutions…

Here is the original list..

And an update.. and another..

When I last checked in 6 months ago, my score was

Resolutions 4.5 Me 5.5

New Years Resolution #1- Post more!

Revisited result: January= 14 posts, February =19 posts.

July update: March=12, April=10, May=14 & June=13

 Since then: July=6   August=13  September=10  October=4 November=5 December=6

126 posts this year!  I think that is definitely successful.

Resolutions 0  Me 1

New Years Resolution #2- We are going to find financial health this year.

This one is definitely #1 on my new list of resolutions.  Again, it’s still eluding us. We are going to make some changes to hopefully get us in a better place this year. I don’t think that we are worse off right now than we were at this time last year… we are pretty much the same. Which in either case is not good.

Resolutions 1 Me 1

New Years Resolution #3- Patience.

Eh. Still a work in progress.

Resolutions 2 Me 1

New Years Resolution #4- more Weight Loss.

I’m going to still give myself the points for this one.. I’ve reached a plateau.. but I have a new gym buddy! So I’ve been going to the gym more again!

Resolutions 2 Me 2

New Years Resolution #5- POTTY TRAINING!

This is my biggest success of the year for sure! She still has some issues with the poop.. but she is a peeing superstar!

Resolutions 2 Me 3

As for 6-10…

#6 Read more.   I was doing pretty well. I made my summer reading list, which I actually crossed a few off the list. I need to get back to it though. But I made some progress so, 1 for me!

#7 house cleaner, purge the junk.  Still a work in progress. I am determined to not suffer from CHAOS (Can’t Have Any One Over Syndrome) any longer.

#8 Not be so lazy about cooking dinner every night.  I was doing way better… but then got lazy… I do cook every night when the hubby is home.  (We’ll score that one half for me.)

#9 Go to my 20th High School Reunion if there is one. then I changed it to.. Take a Trip Back to the Burgh by the end of the year.

Yea that didn’t happen.

#10 actually make time for myself.  I try. But am not always successful. (Half for me)

The final score: Resolutions:  5  Me: 5

Interesting.

At least I tied the resolutions and it wasnt a complete blow out!

I hope your year was a good one.

I’m sure you’re just dying to hear about this years resolutions! 🙂

Happy New Year!

2011 is Half Over- Checking in with my New Year’s Resolutions…

Happy July 1st!

I figured in honor of the year being half over already, I would take a look at my New Years resolutions and see how that’s working out for me.

Here is the original post.

And the last time I revisited them…

When we last visited my Resolutions, the score was:

Resolutions 5 Me 4 TBD 1

Let’s see where we are now..  Drumroll please…

New Years Resolution #1- Post more!

Revisited result: January= 14 posts, February =19 posts.

Since Then: March=12, April=10, May=14 & June=13

Not too shabby.. I’m definitely writing more than once a week!

Resolutions 0  Me 1

New Years Resolution #2- We are going to find financial health this year.

This one is still eluding me. We had gotten completely caught up, and seriously, not 2 days later we were back up the creek without a paddle. Somehow, we are managing to keep our heads above water. We just went through the second time this year that hubby hasn’t worked for two weeks or more. They “claim” that they are booked through the end of the year… but that remains to be seen and I don’t believe it until it actually happens. But I’m trying really really hard to get ahead instead of behind.

Resolutions 1 Me 1

New Years Resolution #3- Patience.

I’m not sure where I stand on this one right now. I try. That’s all I can really say. I won’t chalk this one up as a win just yet.

Resolutions 2 Me 1

New Years Resolution #4- more Weight Loss.

This is definitely a big change from last time!  I may have to give myself 2 points… I joined the gym at the end of May. I have been going 5-6 days a week, I have lost 3 pounds and a couple of inches. Now the trick is keeping it up!

Resolutions 2 Me 2 (To be fair, I only gave myself 1, although I deserve 2! 🙂 )

New Years Resolution #5- POTTY TRAINING!

SCORE! We had a major break through last week, and she’s doing great! We just need to get her to go on the potty when she’s wearing underwear. Baby steps! I’ll totally take her running around naked peeing on the potty to clothes and diapers any day,

Doing better.. although I ate a lot of Wendy’s while the Teen was a camp. Its way too hard sometimes to just cook for me and the Maniac.  I’ll give myself half a score.

#9 Go to my 20th High School Reunion if there is one. Well.. it was supposed to be in July, then it got changed to October, and the last I heard it was cancelled due to lack of interest.  So, I am going to change this goal to Take a Trip Back to the Burgh by the end of the year.

#10 actually make time for myself. Again, this is still really hard. Although going to the gym is the one thing I totally do for me.  My new motto, is “Sometimes I just have to do Me.” Which is true. I can’t worry about everyone all the time without worrying about me sometimes.

Resolutions 4.5 Me 5.5

Hmmm.. it seems half way through the year I have the edge. Who woulda thunk it?

Who killed my yoga buzz?

Well, it is the end of my 3rd week at the gym.

I’m still going strong! And hopefully getting stronger. 🙂

I went to yoga this morning… I like yoga even though it’s hard and it makes you sweat more than you ever thought it would. My favorite part is the end when you just lie there and relax. Ahhh.. so wonderful.

Shiny happy relaxed yoga buzz.

My money was on the kids for ruining that feeling for me this morning. But now, after being on hold for 14 minutes and counting with my health insurance company, I think they are going to have the honor today.

Some guy answered the phone about 5 minutes into being on hold and took all my info looked up my account and when I told him I wanted to make a payment he said someone else needed to do it. Whatever. So annoying. It’s nice that my exorbitant premiums are paying their salaries to let me to sit on hold…

16minutes 32 seconds….

It seriously pains me to make this payment. If only we could find something more affordable. This is what is putting us into financial ruin at the moment.

Well, that and hubby not working for 2 and a half weeks. That surely will do it.

The good news is that he’s heading back to the east coast on Friday for a few weeks.  As much as that totally stinks… at least we will be able to pay the rent for July. It’s the little things right?

Wow. 18 minutes and 48 seconds and they actually answered the phone.

Total call time: 22 minutes.   Yeesh.

Anyway-  Even though i still feel like I’m up a creek without a paddle some days, I’m trying to keep a positive attitude about it.  I could very well just be sitting around moping about it… I could be seriously depressed. Really… it wouldn’t be that hard. But I have to keep the faith.

I KNOW it will all work out.

I KNOW somehow we will be okay.

I CAN’T let it get me down.

After reading this post from (a wonderful blogger who is one of the few people I know to actually read my ramblings) PlaneJaner- Lifeboat

I’ve decided that my new motto is:

When up a creek without a paddle- sing show tunes (or at least something from Glee!)!

With that I must go for now. I have a million things I want to try to write about this week.  But, I must go get ready to take the Maniac to the library for story time! 🙂

How was your weekend?

How was your weekend?

Mine was pretty good.

 – Hubby’s check was actually enough to cover the rent. Whew! I was really worried about that. Now we just have to worry about his working this week.. we still don’t know if there is anything for him to do. Ugh. This has gotten way old way fast. He only worked 2 days last week.

– I spent all day Saturday cleaning and doing the laundry so I wouldn’t have to do it on Sunday.

-The racoon that hangs out in our yard was tormenting the dog all weekend. It was sitting on the roof above our porch just watching him Saturday evening. Then last night it was up in one of the really tall pine trees.. but the dog knew it was there, and proceeded to practically climb the tree to try to get it. The silly dog is going to get stuck one of these days. Had I thought ot grab my camera, before I went scaling the steep hill in the dark, it would have been a great picture of the crazy dog in the tree. But alas, I did not. It was a miracle I found a flashlight.

 – Hubby went out early Sunday morning and got me flowers and cards (from him and the girls). I think he was trying to make me breakfast in bed,but the Maniac wanted me to take her downstairs, so I did. She ran into the kitchen to see what he was doing and came back out yelling “Mama!! daddy got you fowers!” It was pretty cute.

– The rest of the day I just kind of lounged around. I caught up on some tv from the DVR. Although, it seems that my day off ended at 6pm, when they all wanted dinner and no one wanted to make any. Oh well.. a mothers work is never done. 😉

– This morning started with being wide awake at 4am. Luckily I fell asleep again, only to wake up at 6:30 for no real apparent reason.

– Sometime in the middle of the night, my Brother-in-law’s Baby Mama posted a rather rude comment on a picture of my Best Friend on my Facebook. I’m not really sure why she felt the need to do that. I deleted it of course. But now, I’m not sure whether I should say anything or just let it go.

 – I thought I heard the Teen in the bathroom at about 7. Which turned out to not be the case – she neglected to set her alarm and didn’t get up until almost 7:30, right about the time I realized that I hadn’t heard her again. Oh well.. maybe it will teach her a lesson about remembering to turn her alarm on. She managed to not be late.

 – Hubby went off to work. Most likely to be home sooner than later. Ugh. Keep your fingers crossed that he has work this week. He’s starting to drive me insane being here all the time.

 – I am scouring the sale ads to see who has Pull Ups on sale. We are almost out, and being that a certain small person refuses to use the potty I have to figure out how to get the best deal I can on the insanely small budget I have for the next two weeks.

Oh well.. I wish you a wonderful Monday. I’m going to go get dressed and go buy some diapers. Big fun.

Oh!! And I almost forgot! Cross one book off of my Summer Reading List! I finished “Bossypants” by Tina Fey on Saturday! Woo hoo! 🙂

No Wonder My Health Insurance is SO Expensive

I got a refund check in the mail from my idiotic  wonderful (please note the “wonderful” is completely drenched in sarcasm) health insurance company today. I’m not sure why I received this refund… especially, when the check stub says “Refund Explanation: 02 Insufficient Payment.”

Umm… okay.

So, I’m sure you are dying to know how much my new fortune is.

You might want to sit down for this.

Twenty Seven CENTS.

You heard me right.

I know, it’s so ridiculous, I’ll say it again…

TWENTY SEVEN CENTS.

If you don’t believe me here’s a picture…

Yep.. a check for 27 cents.

The postage to mail this check was 36 cents. I bet the paper and window envelope, the ink to print it, and whatever salary they paid the person who iI assume handled it at some point… cost MORE than 27 cents.

Let us also take a moment to remember the tree that gave it’s life for this 27 cent check. What happened to going green?

Seriously people,  couldn’t you just deduct it from my premium? My already incredibly exorbitant premiums that you are RAISING by $87 a month in July.

I would not have minded only paying $83.73 extra.

I’m surprisingly chipper for it being monday.

**So, I thought I posted this, but it seems that I didnt. Hmmm… weird.

It is a beautiful, sunny Monday morning.

I havent had any coffee, yet I am surprisingly chipper.

The good news, Hubby is on his way out-of-town to work this week! YES!!!!! Don’t get me wrong, I hate when he’s gone, and would always rather have him home… just home and working. He didn’t work at all last week. Which is definitely going to make the next couple weeks really tough. . Thanks to the wonderful people at his office, and him being such a good employee.. we should be able to pay the rent. Whew. I was really worried about that. It’s just the few other things that are due between now and him getting paid the next time that are going to be tricky. Somehow it will work out though.

So, the Teen spent ALL weekend working on her book report that is due today. I discovered on Thursday that this assignment was due today. She had been working on it since Monday.. and she barely had anything done by Thursday.  The assignment was that they had to read a book (obviously, it is a book report), write a summary of each chapter(Which were turned in last week), and then make a booklet that included pictures detailing things like the protagonist, setting, conflict, climax, resolution, and some personal thoughts about the book.

Personally, I would think that she content of this booklet would be the most important part of this assignment. Oh no..not to the Teen. She spent THREE days on the pictures for her DRAFT! Not even the real ones.. on her draft. They were colored and everything. When I questioned her about it, she “had to plan what she was going to draw.” Okay, I get that.. but its a draft!

So, she spent Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday working on the content. Which, I felt she really did most of it on Sunday. I felt like she was just writing stuff to write stuff, and not really answering the questions that the teacher was asking her to answer.

She really just drove me crazy with it all weekend. She would ask for help, and then get totally defensive every time I gave her an answer. She had such a bad attitude about it too. Every time I asked a question (I havent read the book, all I know about it is what I’m reading in her work) she wouldn’t answer it.. she would just say “It’s wrong” or “its bad I’ll change it.” I don’t know how many times i said “I’ll change it does not answer my question.”

SOOOOO frustrating. Part of me hopes she gets a crappy grade on it. Maybe it will teach her a lesson. If you do crappy work, you get crappy grades. It seriously looked like she did it last-minute. It was messy, she doesn’t have the best handwriting in the world, so she needed to be extra careful and take her time writing it. She just scribbled the last couple pages. She didn’t check her spelling or punctuation and at some point she stopped erasing her mistakes, and just wrote over them. UGH. It makes me crazy thinking that she turned this thing in looking the way it did. I just have to hope her teacher feels the same way.  She also chose not to get up early and fix it either. So it’s really on her.

Oh, and I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing here… but she has had the information about her school field trip in her backpack for over a week now. She mentioned it when she brought the paper home. Last week when I was doing a random check of her backpack (to make sure there wasnt any food rotting in it) I saw the paper in her binder. I read it and put it back. She keeps talking about going, But the paper has still not made it into my hands. She has to have the money and the permission slip turned in this Friday. I feel like if she wants to go, its her responsibility to give me the info. As far as she knows, I have no idea about any of it.   We’ll see… what happens this week. I hope she realizes that if she gives it to me friday morning, she’s out of luck. Other than my “I dont sign things 5 minutes before you’re leaving” policy, I have to give them cash and I don’t normally have any.

Oh, so how about this Osama Bin Laden being dead thing? Crazy. After all this time, did you ever think we’d see the day?  I found out thanks to Facebook. Gotta love social networking! I was giving the Maniac a bath, and my phone dinged that I had a text and it was an update from a friends FB status…I put on the news and there it was.  Unbelievable. I watched the President’s address, I thought he did a great job. I wonder how excited he was on the inside?  Do you think he wanted to skip for joy back down that hallway when he was done? 🙂 It is a funny thought though.

Well.. I’m going to go entertain the Maniac for a while. Then I have some coupons to clip! Oh- and how annoying is this? I went to the grocery store yesterday morning to get milk. I ran into the Dollar Tree to grab a couple extra newspapers since there are some good coupons this week. (At the Dollar Tree the papers are only $1 and not $1.50!)  Later in the day I went to get the coupons out of the paper and they werent’ there! Not in any of them! SOOOO ANNOYING! I went to Walgreens and their papers didn’t have them either. GRRR. It is my understanding, that they put the inserts in the subscription papers first and then the store ones.. so they could have run out. Who knows. But it’s still annoying. I ended up ordering some on CollectableCoupons.com.

Happy monday to you! 🙂
