A Truly Blonde Moment

Well, I guess it’s a sign that it’s been too long since I posted anything when I couldn’t remember my password.

Anyway- I’m just going to share with you a truly blonde moment I had recently. At least it will start your Monday off with some laughter..

(Oh, and I’m not a “real blonde” although I’m starting to think all the dye I’ve used over the years to make me blonde has clearly seeped into my brain and done some damage. )

My family was watching the first installment of “Frozen Planet” a couple weeks back. I was busy doing something, and I was just catching bits an pieces of it.

I walked through the living room and saw them talking about Narwhals.

I’m completely serious when I say this is what came out of my mouth:

“Narwhals are real?” staring at the television screen in awe…
“I thought they were imaginary like Unicorns.”

By the look my husband gave me, I think he loves me just a little less. 😉

Hope your Monday is free of blonde moments!

I Thought I Left My Mean Girls in 7th Grade.

I know it’s been a really long while since I’ve posted anything. Life has been a little crazy these last few weeks. between the Teen’s 14th birthday bash, the Maniac’s birthday coming up next weekend, trying to get projects done for my etsy store.. and just life in general it’s been hectic to say the least. BUt I’ll get you all caught up on that later.

Yesterday I had something happen that completely floored me.

Something, so insane, immature and just jaw-droppingly stupid I had to share.

I’m 38 years old, and I got mean-girled.

I got the mail, and in it was a white envelope addressed to me, with no return address. Naturally, I was curious. So I opened it first. No one wants to open bills anyway!

Inside was a piece of white paper, on it a letter scrawled in pink crayon.

Yes, I said pink crayon.

Seriously.

And  the contents of this letter…  And I quote..

“the Meet up group do not like you or child. More than two moms complaint to her about you and your child!! Please Leave the group.”

Can you believe that? I thought I left my mean girls in 7th grade. A woman over the age of 30 sent this to me. Scrawled in pink crayon. They even took timeout of their day to not only mail this letter, but to take it to a post office away from their house.

So mean. So pointless. So stupid.

Such a coward that they couldn’t just be a grown up and tell me they have a problem with my to my face. And more importantly couldn’t tell me they have a problem with my kid. Such a coward they had to resort to anonymous bullying.

So pathetic.

I have a suspicion who sent it, although I’ll probably never know.  I have had some issues with the organizer in the past, but I thought we had mended all of our fences and everything was fine.

To my knowledge the complaints about me are old news, I thought that was in the past after the fence mending.  The thing that bugs me about that, is that the organizer has used those exact words to me face “more than 2 moms have complained about you” … so either she is telling people about complaints about me- which is a big problem. Or she wrote it herself. A bigger problem.

So now.. what is my action plan?

I think I’m going to lay low for a few days. Let the culprit wonder. They were obviously looking for a reaction. I won’t give them the satisfaction.

I am going to investigate/confront my suspicions next week.  We’ll see what happens with that.

Then I will post the letter on the group’s website. I think the people who I genuinely think are my friends and are not 7th grade mean girls will be interested to know the kind of people they are exposing their children to.

Then I’m out. I do not need people like that in my, or my daughter’s life.

It’s sad really that it had to come to this.  I’ve spent the last year with most of these people. I thought some of them were my friends. Yes, I have 2 people who I know are my true friends. The rest I’m not so sure anymore. It sucks feeling like you don’t know who to trust. Like everyone is talking behind your back. Like someone is just waiting for you to turn around to get our their dagger.

My message to that person who sent me the letter:

GROW UP. Set a better example for your children, or they are going to turn out to be the pathetic, cowardly, mean bully that you are. THe apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

I’ve been a little busy- plus a new recipe!

I guess it’s been a little while since I’ve written! I’ve thought about it, but never seem to be able to fit it in.  I’ve been busy planning the Teen’s 14th birthday party. This thing has kind of taken on a life of its own.. and I’m still not sure if anyone is coming. Apparetnly people don’t know what RSVP means anymore. Which is totally annoying. If nothing else, 6 of her friends said they would be here. That’s what’s important I guess.

Other than that.. just been loving that hubby has been home these last few weeks… although I am sick and tired of the history channel. That’s all he watches. If I see one more episode of Storage Wars or Modern Marvels I will scream. I’m not kidding. He watched 4 Modern Marvels in a row yesterday! Yeesh!

I should go, since I have a to do list as long as my arm. I can’t believe it’s Tuesday already! But I will leave you with the recipe I made for my Super Bowl watching on sunday. Which, I really only saw less than half of, since I had the longest lunch ever with a friend. We met at 11:30 had lunch, a margarita, and were jsut sitting there talking and all of a sudden it was 4:00! It was wonderful though! I think we both needed it!

Anyway- I found this on my newest adiction- Pinterest!

Peanut Butter Cheeseball!

1 Package cream cheese (room temp)

1 cup powdered sugar

3/4 cup creamy peanutbutter (I used half crunchy, since we didnt have much creamy left)

3 table spoons packed brown sugar

3/4 cup milik chocolate chips

3/4 cup peanut butter chips

graham cracker sticks, teddy grahams, apple slices or pretzels for dipping

Beat cream cheese, piwdered sugar, peanut butter and brown sugar in large mixer bowl until blended.

Spoon onto a large piece of plastic wrap (I used wax paper), form into a ball.

Freeze 1.5 hours unril firm enough to keep its shape. Place chocolate/peanut butter chips in a flat dish, remove plastic wrao from ball and roll in chips until completely covered.

Place ball on serving dish; cover and freeze for 2 hours until almost firm. Serve with graham cracker sticks, teddy grahams, apple slices or pretzels for dipping or spreading.

It is good enough to just eat with a spoon (I ran out of pretzels.)! 🙂

Wishing you a terriffic tuesday!

Limbo.

No, not the party game.

Just this horrible place between knowing nothing and waiting to get an answer.

It’s so frustrating.

I don’t know why people just can’t give you a straight answer when you ask a question.

Me: “Can you help me?”

Them: “Um.. I’ll tell you tomorrow or the next day.”

Or my favorite..

“I’ll follow-up on it in 15 business days.”

Wait, What? But I’ve already waited a month and a half..

Ugh.

I’m trying to be patient. I’ve said a few prayers.

I’m frustrated, overwhelmed.

I feel like there is no end in sight.

I know there has to be a light at the end of this tunnel somewhere.

Maybe around this next turn….

From 0 to cake in 5 minutes flat!- Recipe of the week #3

I tried a few new recipes this week, but I think this one deserves the most attention 🙂

I’m not kidding when I say you get cake in 5 minutes flat!

This is: 5 minute Chocolate Mug Cake!

Thank my mom for sending me this! She forwarded it from a recipe exchange email that one of her friends sent her! And I really wanted something sweet last night and I remembered that it was in my inbox! So I threw it together, and 5 minutes later there was cake!

Here’s what you need:

4 Tablespoons Flour

4 Tablespoons Sugar

2 Tablespoons Cocoa

1 egg

3 Tablespoons Milk

3 Tablespoons oil or butter (I liked it way better with the butter!)

3 Tablespoons of Chocolate Chips-optional (I used peanut butter chips)

a small splash of vanilla extract

(I also added a pinch of baking powder)

1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil/butter and mix well. Add the chocolate chips and vanilla extract and mix again. (The chocolate chips sink to the bottom, so if you want them throughout I suggest putting in half and mixing them, and then just putting the rest on top)

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 min at 1000 watts (HIGH). THe cake will rise over the top pf the mug, but don’t be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, then tip it out onto a plate and EAT! It’s a little rich, so you might want to share it with someone you love! ❤

The other recipes I tried out this week were:

Real Sopapillas– As per my hubby’s request, they turned out pretty good!

Thanksgiving Leftover Casserole – We were using what we had, and there was some turkey left from Thanksgiving and mashed potatoes left from the night before and I made this! There were no leftovers!

Crispy Potato Roast – I found this recipe on Pinterest, I seasoned it a little differently, but it was delish! 🙂

That’s 6 new recipes for the year! 🙂

They’re not pretty, but they’re Pierogi- Recipe of the Week #2

On Sunday, in honor of my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers who lost in the most horrible 5 seconds of OT ever… I tried my hand at home made pierogi. (If you don’t know what a pierogi is.. it’s a little dough pillow filled with potatoes, cheese, onion or even sauerkraut. I belive it is a traditionally Polish dish.)

Even though I am 50% polish, I’m pretty sure we never had pierogi at home growing up. But they do remind me of my Pittsburgh roots, which is why I usually to serve them during Steeler games.

Normally I go to the grocery store and buy a box of Mrs. T’s frozen pierogi.. but  I was feeling adventurous.

They are kind of a lot of work, and since I have never even seen someone make them, I was kind of flying blind.

Here is the recipe I found on allrecipes.com: Pierogi

It was the one with the most good reviews that I looked at, and that made the most sense to me. I just used the dough portion of the recipe, and made my own mashed potato filling. Which, I basically just made mashed potatoes like I normally would.

So here’s the before picture. They are not pretty at all. I got the hang of it more as I went on.. the later ones are much better than the first few.

Tada! Here they are, cooked with sautéed onions in butter ready to eat! They were surprisingly good!

And I actually made 2 new recipes today! We had leftover mashed potatoes so I tried this: Crispy Parmesan Potato Puffs.  Compliments to my sister for finding this one! They didn’t come out as nice as the ones they show on the recipe, but they were tasty!

There you have it! I have now tried 2 new recipes in the first 10 days of the year!

Getting back to “Normal”

It’s official.

The Teen is finally back to school today so the holiday season is finally over for us! Woo hoo! While it’s been nice having her around for three weeks, it’s good for her to get back to school! I think she missed it.

What I may not have mentioned is that my dear hubby has been home and not working pretty much as long as the Teen has been on break.  It’s wonderful that he’s been home that long.. way not great that he hasn’t been working.  And of course it seems that he filled something out wrong on an unemployment form, so that’s been held up.. (But I just talked to him, and they have supposedly straightened it out.)…so these last few weeks have not been easy for us.

But we are getting back to normal.

He started back to work last Thursday.

Wait- are you ready for this..?

He’s going to be working here for a whole, entire month! I don’t know the last time that happened! He can go to sleep in our bed, wake up, go to work and come home and have dinner as a family …. like a normal person!

I kind of forgot what that felt like.

It was seriously weird those first two days.  It was like the good ol’ days when he had a “normal” job, and we were a “normal” family.

Yes, we have created a “new normal” with his being gone all the time… and we’ve managed pretty okay over these last couple years.

But going back to the old way, is kind of refreshing. I think everyone needed this. Which also means it’s probably going to suck that much more the next time he goes out-of-town.

Oh, and the icing on our “normal” cake- my brother-in-law is working with him on  this job, and is going to be staying with us for a month! So it’s really a flash back!  The kids really miss him a lot. (Shhh.. don’t tell him, but I miss him too.)When I told the Maniac that he was coming, for three days  every time someone whet near the door she said “Is uncle here!?!?!”

He just got here yesterday, and first thing out of her mouth this morning, was “Is uncle still here?” I had to reassure her that he was just working with daddy and they would be home later. “Okay Mama.. let’s go to the airport and get them!”  It’s probably not good that she thinks we have to get daddy at the airport every time he comes home from work.

Oh well… Reality beckons… I have a huge mountain of laundry waiting for me, and a to do list a mile and a half long.

It’s going to be a busy day!
